Frequently Asked Questions
What is OpenGraph?
OpenGraph is a protocol created by Facebook that allows web pages to control how they appear when shared on social media. By adding og:title, og:description, and og:image meta tags to your HTML, you control the title, description, and image shown in link previews across Facebook, Twitter/X, Slack, Discord, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, iMessage, and more.
What are Twitter Cards?
Twitter Cards are Twitter/X's version of link previews. They use twitter:card, twitter:title, twitter:description, and twitter:image meta tags. The two main types are summary (small image) and summary_large_image (large image). Twitter falls back to OpenGraph tags if Twitter-specific tags are missing.
What is the recommended OG image size?
The recommended OpenGraph image size is 1200×630 pixels (1.91:1 aspect ratio). This works across all major platforms. Use PNG or JPEG format, keep the file under 5MB, and ensure important content is centered since some platforms crop the edges.
Which meta tags should every page have?
At minimum, every page should include: og:title, og:description, og:image, og:url, og:type, plus twitter:card for Twitter/X. Also include a standard <title> tag and meta description for search engines.
Is this tool free?
Yes, the Viewert OpenGraph Previewer is completely free. No account, no sign-up, no limits. Just paste a URL and preview your link instantly.
How does this tool work?
When you enter a URL, our server fetches the page (just like Google, Facebook, or Slack would), extracts all meta tags from the HTML, and renders platform-accurate previews. We don't store your URLs or any fetched content. The tool includes SSRF protection and only fetches public HTTP/HTTPS URLs.
